The Confessional School of Poetry

The confessional school of poetry emerged in the 1950s and 1960s in the USA. Confessional poets treated their poetry as an open wound of confessions
that they sought to heal through poetry. Their poems delineated the most private moments of personal experiences, the pain endured by the psyche to carry
on, psychological traumas that kept haunting them, the desire to commit suicide and their own experiences of mental illness and treatment.
Write a 1500-word essay in light of the guidelines that have been uploaded on BB on ONE of the following poets:
Sylvia Plath
Anne Sexton
John Berryman
Robert Lowell
Your essay should focus on 2-3 poems (depending on their length) in which you need to analyze the poetic technique used by the poet you chose and the
elements of the confessional school employed in the poetry.

and interact with the critics who worked on your chosen poems. Of course your personal opinion and your own critical voice are significantly important, but
you must also show the research efforts that had been exerted to write your paper.
