Instruction on Research Proposal

Purpose: For the Casptone Project I class, we will need to develop a research proposal. The research
proposal will serve as the guidance for you to do the Casptone project along the way.

Please note:
Your research project is not limited in just using one GIT technology or applications. It can be either
more remote sensing or GIS oriented project, or the combination of using both. You can select any topic
that using GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis etc to tackle a partiular problem.

The proposal is not just a regular assignment for grade. It is actually a presentation for me and
communication between us to have a clear idea on what your project would be. I need to ensure each
student being on the right track, the idea is innovative, and your project is viable and feasible to be done,
and it has the quality and depth of a master student’s research for you to receive your master degree.
Rather than say it is an assignment, it is literally your and my effort to conduct a successful project in
the course of graduate study. The proposal enables me to think about and advise your project, and
enables you to start collecting data from now. I encourage you to start the research work well ahead of
time and expect everyone can complete it on time.

The content of proposal can be 3 to 8 pages, but no less than 3 pages, double space, 12 font.
The proposal should include the following items:
1. a title of the research project
2. your name
3. purpose of the project ( introduction and problem statement)
4. study area and data that you will conduct this research
5. a research scheme with detailed research methods and steps
6. your expected results and how you will analyze the result
7. conclusion
