1. Coursework Title: Case Study Report (3000 words)
2. Case Study Report – General Description
The assessment for the INF6025 module consists of a structured report on the
governance of data sharing (Section A) and on education and development
frameworks for information governance (Section B).
Section A. Data Sharing: Value Risks and Governance (2000 words) should contain
four sub-sections structured in accordance with the four steps of the Assessing
Governability framework, with each sub-section consisting of a maximum of 500
words each. Additionally, you must draw on ONE of the three in-class case studies,
taking care to illustrate each step of the framework with evidence from the case.
Section B: Information Governance: Competencies (1000 words). This section should
contain a review of competency frameworks for information governance.
Additionally, for Section B, you must draw on the competency frameworks identified
and discussed in class.
3. Case Study Report – Content
Introduction (max 150 words).
This should set out the key message of the report, its main line of argument, and
evidence in support of this argument.
Section A. Data Sharing: Value Risks and Governance (2000 words)
You should provide an assessment of the issues arising within the different parts of
the case, and how these issues contribute either to increasing or decreasing the
governability of data sharing. The assessment should be carried out by using the
following four steps.
Step 1. Identifying problem wickedness (500 words).
Do different stakeholders have different perspectives on the problem of data sharing?
Does the problem of data sharing have a stopping rule?
Is the problem of data sharing embedded in other problems?
Were any decisions taken that were costly and consequential and make a resolution to
the problem of data sharing tricky?
Step 2. Examining system properties (500 words).
Where do the four system properties occur within the case?
What components are there? How diverse are these components?
What relationships exist between these components? How complex is the problem?
What interactions have occurred? How dynamic is the problem?

What boundaries exist? Are there different levels of scale that can be used to study the
problem?
Step 3. Evaluating the governing system (500 words).
Do the different elements of the governing system fit well with its environment?
How does governing get done? Is it responsive to the demands of the problem?
How well does the governing system perform relative to the problem?
Step 4. Governing Interactions (500 words).
What governing interactions were present?
What was the quality of these governing interactions?
What power relations exist within the case? Were they enabling or restrictive?
Section B. Information Governance: Competencies (1000 words).
A range of individuals and groups of people are involved in contributing to mitigating
the risks of data/information processing and/or adding to its value. These include data
scientists, data architects, data analysts, data visualization experts; as well as records
managers, IT risk and governance managers; and end-users who make decisions
based on the data/information e.g., business users, performance managers, financial
analysts etc.
What frameworks exist to improve competences and skills relevant to adding value to
or mitigating against the risks of information processing?

This should contain a summary of the preceding argument, and any implications for
how governance of data sharing and information can be improved.
