Evaluation Rubric/Instructions for Story Development Paper
Instructions
 Create/develop a story that meets the following criteria, as indicated
in the Rubric below:
o It must be a minimum of at least two single-spaced pages
o The story must be written using psychological ordering
o You must use at least two techniques to develop this ordering
(such as flashbacks, flash-forwards, streams of consciousness,
and so on)
o There are at least two believable and well-developed character/s
created
o The reader must be able to get into the mind of the protagonist
o The story must have the following: Inviting
Introduction/Exposition; Story Development/Rising Action;
Climax Resolution/Falling Action
o There must be several types of conflict
o There must be dialogue developed
o The story must be open to analysis using at least one of the
criticisms studied in this course (ex. Feminist, Cultural, etc.)
o The story must achieve all of the elements of a short story: is
limited in length and scope; it begins close to or at the height of
the action; only one character is developed in depth by showing
his/her reactions to events; the character experiences an
epiphany; it concentrates on a single incident; attention is
placed on a description of the setting
