Research shows that women are more likely than men are to complete post-secondary education.
However, when men and women have the same education levels, men are more likely to earn more money
than women. Education levels being equal, men make more money than women.
Research has shown that “[j]obs advertisements in male-dominated fields use more masculine wording
(i.e., words associated with male stereotypes, such as leader, competitive, dominant) than advertisements
within female-dominated areas. And, more importantly, women found these jobs less appealing” (Anzovino
& Boutilier, 2015, p. 132).
“While there aren’t many women heading up some of Canada’s largest corporations, there are even fewer
helping to govern our country” (Anzovino & Boutilier, 2015, p. 133).
More often than men, women end up working in “precarious employment” situations and working part-time.
Women are very over-represented in these categories.
