Group Project Reflection Piece

As we discussed in class, your group project was an “Applied Learning” assignment. This means that you drew upon the knowledge you gained in class/through your reading and applied it to a particular situation. In other words, you did something with it! (That’s a very simplified explanation!).
In this case, you learned many concepts and theories related to Interpersonal Communication, watched the movie Freedom Writers, utilized the information you learned in class to figure out the best ways to communicate inspirational messages you took away from the movie and then you developed a presentation to “pay forward”/teach these messages to a sector of the NCC Community. Oh yeah…. and, you actually presented it! Pat yourself on the back for this great civic engagement!

1. Explain the experience of taking something you learned and putting it into action? How did it feel to use concepts/theories you learned in class to communicate a message to a particular audience? Please compare/contrast this type of learning with taking a multiple-choice test.

2. I had no expectations/specifics for what messages you needed to present, what theories you needed to apply and to what audience you needed to present. How did it feel to be free to make this project “your own” vs. a prescribed set of questions?

3. Please reflect on the process of working as a part of a group/team. Comment on advantages of this, disadvantages, etc.
