– After reading the article by Mason et al (2015), relating to improving children’s diets at the neighborhood level
of involvement, write a short essay (1-2 double spaced pages, 12 point font).
Highlighting the relevance of culture, socialization, and children’s health issues (make reference to the article
– What did the research reveal about the connection between culture, socialization, and health?).
– Using yourself, or someone you know, relate a similar practice that illustrates the potentially negative impact
of cultural practices and health. In other words, is there a cultural food, drink, ritual, or norm that is part of your
family/ethnic history, but is not necessarily healthy for you?
– How might you change this practice in a culturally sensitive way (similar to the culturally sensitive approach
from the article)?
