Performance Improvement Plan Information
Each group will complete a thorough performance improvement plan. It is best that you make headings for each bullet item. Please pay particular attention to bullet number 2, students tend to miss that requirement. Paper will be graded using written communication rubric.
• Introduction of the issue. Are Medical Assistants qualified to perform depression screenings in primary care.?
• You need to include why this issue is important. The issue can be a change in practice (either an introduced change or one that needs introduction) or a process concern (generated from an error or omission).
• Investigate the issue. What is the cause of the issue? Use the tools from Chapter 15 in Goetsch & Davis – such as a Cause-and-Effect Diagram, Pareto Chart, etc. to examine the issue.
• Prepare a plan that will address the issue
o Change in process or change in practice, Teach Medical Assistant to properly administer a depression screen and how to evaluate the results.
o Ethical principles
o Who are the players and stakeholders? Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Nurses, and Medical assistants
o What is the expected outcome?
• Operationalize the plan. How will the plan be operationalized? How will the stakeholders be affected? What is the timeline? What is the expected outcome?
• Implement the plan. What are the steps in implementation that will be followed? Use your timeline to work this out.
• Study the change as implemented. How will the process/practice change be evaluated as it is put in place? Who are the evaluators?
• Evaluation. What is the outcome/or expected outcome of the process/practice change? Who, what or how will the organization, stakeholders, etc. be impacted by the change? How will the change be operationalized industry wide?

• Prepare a scholarly paper (Scholarly writing rubric will be used)
• Prepare a PowerPoint presentation. Remember that the PowerPoint presentation needs to innovate to keep the reader interested. Too much text will lose the reader. You can insert any digital material if it will help.
