2- Health Disparities In The United States

Create a presentation that focuses on reducing health disparities in the United states and how this relates to increasing social justice awareness. Create a program or policy that will reduce the prevalence of a health concern or disparity among a specific demographic.

This project should include either an informational poster, newsletter or short commercial recording that could be distributed to the general population to inform the audience on your program and its significance. You will also create presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides or Prezi, which includes the following information:

1. Identify an existing problem, your target population, and a venue of interest. You might be interested in behaviors that you might want to increase or decrease for example, exercise, STD prevention, nutrition, sleep habits, the availability of clean drinking water, or cancer screenings. There are numerous topics that can be researched. Your population of interest could be for example children, adult males, adult females, or the elderly etc… You also need to define your venue of interest. For example, a school, a campus, a private work site, etc…

2. Investigate the issue.
Create a presentation discussing the history of the health disparity, why you chose this specific population and location to focus your program on. How does this relate to increasing social justice awareness? Also include research that supports this topic or the lack of research.
Investigate whether there is a policy associated with the problem you are addressing. If there is a policy associated with the problem please reference it.
You can also contact stakeholders and conduct phone interviews to get a better sense of the issue. For example, is there a policy regarding food consumption at a local high school? If there is an existing policy or program that you think could be improved, then address that issue for your project.
Alternatively, if there is no policy or program regarding your problem of interest then you will create one. Additionally, discuss the anticipated obstacles to the acceptance of your proposal (financial, political, practical, etc) and address them preemptively.

3. How would you hypothetically promote your proposal? This might entail meeting with existent policy makers (e.g. school administrators, company managers, government officials) and presenting them with your consulting report.

4. Prepare either a poster, newsletter or short commercial recording describing your proposal.

5. You should include at least 4 peer reviewed research references that support the information you are presenting on. You may also discuss whether or not more research should be done on this specific issue/population. All writing should be in APA format.
After submitting your presentation and either a poster, newsletter or short commercial recording view at least two of your classmates’ projects and leave comments.
