The events of the last decade have shown us that no one is shielded from emergencies and disasters. There may be an active shooter situation in our hospital, terrorist attack, natural or chemical disasters, drilling accidents, fires, and most likely some that we have not yet known. Regardless of what happens, nurses have a unique skill set, are many in number, and are positioned to have a tremendously positive impact. We just need to prepare for it.
