Research Assignment Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to research your question, analyze and interpret the various sources you access about the question, formulate an
argument or position in response to the question, and then write an essay that synthesizes the information you have gathered and provides a clearly
organized argument.
This is a 5-page essay including at least four (4) outside sources (credible evidence), plus an additional Work Cited page in MLA format.
This assignment will be broken down into steps, and those are briefly outlined below. Full details will be in the Research Project file, located on Blackboard.
Library Session. Prof. Don Simmons will explain the WCC database and other important links that will help you successfully complete your research project.
Do not miss this class. Room 220 — Library.
Select a topic for your research project. This must be a debatable issue. Be prepared to share your position on the topic.
Submission of Formal Research Proposal (Step 1) Topic Share in class.
Summary of one or two sources found on the library database; these sources must be from a periodical, a journal, or a credible website. They should be part
of the four required for the AB. (Small group discussion on this date.)
Annotated Bibliography due (Step 2) using four academically appropriate sources to be used in your paper, MLA format.
Preliminary draft of essay needed for student peer review session.
First draft submitted via Blackboard.
Submit final copy of Research paper with proper MLA Works Cited page through Safe Assign (Step 3)
Oral presentations 3-5 minutes
Reflective Essay about writing your research paper.
