The Root of Inequality

This assignment is designed to show your ability to integrate concepts and content of multicultural education into ongoing classroom and professional
practice.
CHOOSE ONE OF THESE TWO OPTIONS.
Each option includes a template designed to guide you in creating your papers.
Option A: Multicultural Unit PlanView template here.
The multicultural unit plans should represent a significant unit of instruction extending over several class periods.
Submit a unit of lessons (4 lessons) and delineate how, as an educator, you would incorporate cultural sensitivities into each lesson.
In your paper be sure to:
Choose ONE area of cultural sensitivity to expand upon in each lesson.
Examples of cultural sensitivity may include:
1. Gender / Sexual Orientation
2. Ethnicity
3. Race
4. Socioeconomic Status
5. Religion
6. Special Needs
7. Language
You may choose another option not listed here as well, however, it would need to be a broad enough topic to encompass an entire lesson.
In your Lesson Plans, be sure to include the following:
● An introductory paragraph that states:
○ The main theme of the unit
○ The educational objective of the unit (Students will learn how to……….)
○ The cultural sensitivities that will be included within the lesson plans
● Label each lesson plan, create one – two clear lesson objectives and demonstrate how each specific cultural sensitivity topic would be taught in each
lesson.
● Use a range of modalities including hands-on activities, stories, assignments, writings, literature and anything else you can think of to incorporate the topic
into your lesson.
● Be sure to give a detailed structure to the lesson plan with sufficient descriiption so that others would be able to duplicate it in their classrooms.
● Wrap up each lesson well by using a “review/summary” piece such as an exit ticket, survey, quiz, oral review, ect. so that the teacher can informally or
formally assess the students’ knowledge gains at the end of each class.
Please keep in mind that I will NOT be analyzing the details of how the lessons of the unit are structured as that is not the goal of our course. I will be looking
out to see how well you have incorporated the cultural diversity and sensitivities aspects of the unit into the lesson plans.
Option B: Annotated Multicultural Resource GuideView template here
Research and collect multicultural resources to create a practical guide for classroom teachers, education administrators, and professional practitioners.
In your practical guide (5 pages min. length) be sure to:
Choose legitimate and well sourced articles, research papers & studies (Not Wikipedia, online sites, ect……each article must be properly sourced) that
expand upon areas of cultural sensitivity in the classroom.
These areas include but are not limited to:
1. Gender / Sexual Orientation
2. Ethnicity
3. Race
4. Socioeconomic Status
5. Religion
6. Special Needs
7. Language
Your Guide must include the following:
● An introduction which includes the goal of this guide, who the guide is intended for, instructions on how to use the guide to enhance student’s educational
experience and an overview of the cultural sensitivities that are included in the guide.
● Include a table of contents that lists the articles, authors, and specific sensitivities each article corresponds to.
● For each article:
● Include the title, source (book, journal, ect.) author
● A copy of the article chosen
● Summarize each article in a thorough and knowledgeable manner. (2-3 paragraphs)
