You will analyze the Walt Disney Company case. YOU MUST READ THE CASE IN THE TEXT (file attached) and your analysis will ONLY come from the text DO NOT use information about the company from the internet; everything should come from the text only. For the financial ratios, if there is information missing in the text for a specific ratio, you do not have to compute that ratio. Once again, everything on the case analysis will come from the case only, nothing from the internet. Therefore, if there is information missing for a specific part, you do not have to search the internet for it. You will refer to the file “Strategic Case Analysis Guide” and you will analyze the Walt Disney Company based on the Strategic Management Process – Analysis, Formulation and Implementation (AFI). You do not have to write an introduction or anything of that sort just go straight to the analysis. I need you to perform:
1. Perform and External environment analysis of the:
a. Macro-level environment (PESTEL analysis)
b. Industry environment (e.g,, Porter’s five forces)
c. Competitive environment
d. Strategic group analysis
2. Perform an internal analysis of the firm using the resource-based view:
a. What are the firm’s resources, capabilities, and competencies?
b. Does the firm possess valuable, rare, costly to imitate resources, and is it organized to capture value from those resources (VRIO analysis)? Note: Do not just say “yes”. You actually have to make an analysis and answer whether Starbucks is organized to capture value from those resources.
c. What is the firm’s value chain?
3. Analyze the firm’s current business-level and corporate-level strategies:
a. Business-level strategy (product market positioning)
b. Corporate-level strategy (diversification)
c. International strategy (geographic scope and mode of entry)
d. How are these strategies being implemented?
4. Analyze the firm’s performance and analyze the points listed on page 461 and ensure that you compute the financial ratios (see page 462):
a. Use both financial and market-based measures
b. How does the firm compare to its competitors as well as the industry average?
c. What trends are evident over the past three to five years?
d. Consider the perspectives of multiple stakeholders (internal and external)
e. Does the firm possess a competitive advantage? If so, can it be sustained?
Based on the information gathered in your analysis (points 1-4 above) you will then:
Make a diagnosis (see page 462)
Formulation: Proposing Feasible Solution/Solutions (see page 462)
Plan for implementation (see page 462)
