Signs of The Proceeding World

In this paper, you will be reading the novel, Signs Preceding the End of the World and the focus of this paper will be on chapter 9.
*Instructions*
The presentation consists of the following: (SHOULD ONLY BE WRITTEN ON CHAPTER 9)
1) Typed summary (on CHAPTER 9) of the material you are presenting: Keep in mind that an effective summary highlights the main ideas, characters, and
events. In contrast, an ineffective summary repeats everything in the reading. Be sure to focus on the most important points of the reading. Your summary
needs to be at least one full page if double-spaced and half a page if singled-spaced. You may use short quotes in your summary but they are not required.
When you present your summary, try not to just read straight from your paper. Summarize more informally, using what you wrote as an outline and a guide.
2) Passage selection: Select a particular passage (from CHAPTER 9) in the assigned reading material that spoke to you on some level. This passage should
be typed and submitted with your summary. Please note that a passage is not a single sentence. Your selected passage needs to be between 5- 8 sentences
long. Your passage will be read aloud to the class.
3) Passage explanation: An explanation of why this particular passage was chosen should be shared with the class and also included in your written
assignment. You may have chosen a passage, for instance, because it reveals something interesting or important about the literary work. Perhaps you want
to note the author’s use of descriiptive details or make a personal connection. There are many reasons why a passage may have stood out to you. Make that
reason clear to the class. If you do make a personal connection, be sure you are relating back to the literary piece effectively and not just going off on a
personal tangent. We will talk more about this in class as the presentations begin.
4) Write two discussion questions. You must think about the reading material you are presenting and come up with two original discussion questions. Avoid
yes/no questions, as these do not lend themselves very well to discussion. Also, avoid asking the obvious (for example, if you are presenting a chapter in a
novel, don’t ask something that gets revealed in the following chapter). What is a good question to ask your peers about the material? Depending on class
time, you will usually only have to present one of your questions.
An example will be provided in the files as well as the PDF of the reading. If there are any questions regarding the assignment, please message me asap!
