and please make sure to read the instructions carefully everything is explained. let me know if you have any questions.
Individual Project
If done well, this project is something not only will you learn from as an instrumental part of your experience here at Southern CT University, but it will be
something you can discuss during interviews or even serve as a beneficial contribution to your workforce if you are currently employed.
Think about your major. How is BIS used in your current/future field? Come up with a BIS project that you could propose to a current or future organization
that would specifically help that area of focus.
For example, if you are a Marketing major, you may want to set up a new eCommerce website for selling products for “Walsh Corporation” which makes
specialty suitcases. You would need a Marketing plan and materials, a company that can help you with your website, where you would need to store
sensitive, credit card information, an online market place and mobile presence, etc. Or if you are a Management major, perhaps you have 50 employee that
work at “Walsh Corporation”. You may want to put a Talent Management System in place to recruit, retain and develop your employees.
You are essentially required to select an area of focus, then conduct research to create a Business Case for your project. At minimum it should consist of the
following pieces. You can use this as a guideline, but you should include other elements as well as you learn more about BIS throughout the class.
1. Scope – what is the focus of your project
2. Business Requirements – what will the Information System need to be able to do, who and how many users will need access to it, how often will it need to
be available, etc.
3. Technical Components/Platforms – hardware, software, mobile application, etc.
4. Implementation Approach – how will you implement and who will help you
5. Implementation Timeline – how long it will take, what are the phases
6. Estimated costs – remember to include costs for all the elements above
It is expected you will do research and find real solutions for your made up company. If you want to use your real company make sure this is ok first, or create
a fake company name. Some students have gone as far as to request real information from companies. Other students have used rough estimates of
timelines and costs. Given your numbers are reasonable either approach is ok.
The Project will consist of two deliverables. One, a written paper that will serve as your business case which needs to be submitted in MS Word. Two, a
PowerPoint presentation that is a summary of your paper and would be how you would present your proposal to your management. Both deliverables are due
at the end of the semester. A draft paper/outline review is due about halfway through the course, however if you want to keep more open dialogue with me
throughout the semester this is perfectly fine. All Presentations will be posted online for students to see after the submission date has passed
