Persuasive Speaking

You will be able to identify a topic that meets the definition of persuasive speaking.
You will be able to effectively organize your persuasive speech in one of the outlines provided: For this speech, we will only be using a motivated sequence
pattern: Motivated Sequence PatternLinks to an external site.
You will be able to integrate outside resources(7 total) in order to legitimize the credibility of yourself as well as your speech content.
You will demonstrate progress of learned verbal and nonverbal skills while presenting a public address: Delivery of speech will be more heavily reflected in
your grade. Remember it is not just what you say in persuasive speaking, it is how you say it.
Specific requirements:
Practice to last between 8-10 minutes.
Consist of a complete introduction, organized body, and thorough conclusion.
Typed formal outlineLinks to an external site.: full sentences and sources incorporated into speech as oral citations in bold.
Include a minimum of 7 outside sources/oral citations(different) clearly cited in the speech. Turn in your APA or MLALinks to an external site. reference page
with your outline on the day you speak, just as always.
Employ extemporaneous speaking
PowerPoint is required: Since a motivated sequence patternLinks to an external site. requires a solution it is important for your audience to be able to have
this information not only verbally announced to them but also visually available. Grammar, spelling, and professionalism will be graded. Your credibility is
being reflected in what you produce. A PowerPoint can also help build ethos and pathos.
Evaluation:
Content (Appropriate format; credible research; MUST PERSUADE!)
Organizational pattern appropriate to the topic. Motivational SequenceLinks to an external site. is the only pattern we will be using for this speech. Please
only use this template: TemplateLinks to an external site.
This type of speech has a hypothetical audience that is ready to take action. A solution will be provided to them to make this behavioral change. This is the
best result you can hope for when giving a persuasive speech. For example “Everyone should adopt a dog from an animal shelter.” or “College students
should take a drinking responsibly course.” These two proposition statement examples reflect how your thesis should be created. The word”should” or
“should not” imply a behavior change. You can find more information about the motivated sequence pattern on pages 146-148 of your textbook.
Delivery (Verbal and Nonverbal)
Effective use of time
Appropriately cited sources/reference page & note cards
PowerPoint.

Here is an example Motivated Sequence Pattern Speech OutlineLinks to an external site. that I created for you. We have videos to help us, but I find this
example helpful I hope you do too. You will notice it follows the outline and the the pictures are interactive. This provides the audience with not only a visual
but also an interactive tool to view statics and donation options.
Please the most important thing for me is to follow the template pattern that I will add its link.
