Leadership is key component of macro social work practice. With this, social work leaders need to understand the organization in which they work, the ability
to identify strengths and weaknesses of that organization, and the insight needed to address community needs.
The Organization Review/Audit assignment is an opportunity for students to refine these skills by applying the material from the first two thirds of the course
to better understand an organization of relevance to them. The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate knowledge, skills, values, cognitive and affective
processes, and behaviors related to engaging diversity and difference in practice as well as the ability to engage, assess, intervene with and evaluate social
work practice with organizations and communities.
Directions
The 6- to 8-page paper (not including attachments) includes 3 parts: Agency Descriiption, Analysis, and Student Impression.
Part 1: Agency Descriiption: Each review needs to start with abroad descriiption of the agency and the community it serves. To accomplish this, make sure to
include the following information:
Agency Overview
Descriiption of the Agency
Agency Size, number of employees, approximate annual budget, number of years in existence
What are the agency mission, vision and goals
Key elements in your organization’s mission statement, vision and goals
Ways the organization communicated mission to its various stakeholders
Context of the community the agency serves
Attachment: Copy of the agency’s mission, vision and goals (does not count in page length)
Part 2: Analysis: Analyze the agencies practices using scholarly writing, and evidence-based practices including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats. Propose organizational changes using theories, values, philosophical frameworks, and management concepts from the scholarly literature.

Part 3: Student’s Impression: Identify, assess, and make recommendations for the agency to appropriately respond to the ever-changing environment
ethically and inclusively.
What are your overall impressions of the agency?
What are the areas of strengths? What are areas of weakness?
How do things fit together (e.g., do any of the weak areas seem connected, or are there any that may affect each other?)?
Are there serious misalignments or problems?
Is this an agency where you would want to work? Why or why not?
Peer Review & Grade: To help track their learning progress and provide valuable feedback, student have the OPTIONAL opportunity to participate in a peer
review of the Management Review/Audit.
Students who chose to participate in this process must submit their paper 2 weeks early on the first day of session 8 and agree to provide feedback to one of
their peers no later than the last day of session 9. Students who chose to participate will receive feedback from 1 of their peers and will provide feedback to
one of their peers. Students may then use this feedback to inform edits prior to submitting the final version for final grading on the last day of session 10.
The peer reviews will be used to inform the student edits. The instructor reserves the right to award the assignment grade based on the quality of the work
submitted.
Please know peer review is optional and can be selected simply by turning it in no later than the first day of session 8.
Logistic and professional considerations require papers to be submitted on time to be included. Papers submitted after this date will not be included in the
peer review process.
