The position paper should draw on the CBD documents related to the post-2020 framework, as well as on submissions from your delegation and other
stakeholders available on the CBD website.
The position paper should include:
• An introduction, which shall include some background about the stakes of the post-2020 GBF and COP15, as well as a succinct introduction of the 3 items
that you have negotiated and their contribution to the GBF.
• Then, you narrow down on the item that you have been charged to negotiate
o Begin with a summary of the relevance and importance of the issue related to your negotiation item for the post-2020 GBF, as well as re-state the final
compromise solution that was achieved.
o Make a summary statement of your Delegation ’s main position on this item.
o Develop your position systematically and methodologically in sub-arguments that are logically connected to each other.
o For each sub-argument, you should also summarize relate your position to that of other parties, either to join or rebut their position in a fair and
argumentative manner.
• A conclusion wrapping up your main arguments this negotiation item, which articulates your degree of satisfaction with the final compromise found on this
item, as well as the linkage to your delegation ’s overall stance on the post-2020 GBF.
