Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to prepare the DNP student for professional practice at the doctoral level through a practice immersion experience aligned with DNP Essential VII. The student will explore a population health issue that can be addressed by advocating for policy change via writing a letter to public official.
Course Learning Outcomes
In completing this assignment, the student will:
• CO 3: Design leadership endeavors to promote human flourishing through learning (PO 1, 4, 5, 7).
• CO 7: Utilize conceptual ability and technical skills to execute an effective implementation and evaluation plan for addressing client needs in appropriate nursing leadership settings (PO 1, 2, 3, 4, 7).
• CO 8: Act as an advocate and informed resource for the profession of nurse leaders regarding healthcare policies (PO 1, 2, 3, 6, 7).

Requirements
1. The assignment will be graded using the designated rubric. Grading criteria include quality of content, use of Standard English grammar, organization, and readability.
2. Create your assignment using a Microsoft Word Application using the template provided Download template provided. Save the document in a .doc or .docx format.
3. The letter should be 1–2 pages in length; it should be thorough but succinct.
4. This letter is to an elected/appointed public official (likely a layperson). DO NOT use medical jargon, APA format, or include a title or reference page.

Preparing the Letter Content
1. Identify a population health issue that can be addressed by advocating for policy change.
A. Select an appropriate public official to contact regarding the issue.
2. Gather background and local information
A. Interview at least 1 stakeholder to gain background knowledge.
I. Upload a transcript of the interview and the CV/resume or a link to the LinkedIn page of the interviewee to Canvas.
B. Review the literature or other sources of data to support the letter content with evidence
I. DO NOT include citations or a reference page–this is a letter.
II. Provide insight from interviews or anecdotal evidence (as appropriate) to humanize the issue.
3. Set broad goals and actions
