Leaders often hear from agitated people in their organization. In fact, organizational stakeholders rely on their leaders to accept the agitation and solve the
problems. Again and again we hear of leaders who feel they simply are guardians of the “complaint department.” And yet it is in the areas of agitation that
opportunity to improve presents itself.
Colin Powell is credited with saying “the day your people stop bringing you problems, you have stopped leading them.”
To utilize the value presented in the agitation, leaders must resolve to be solutions oriented, transforming into champions who accept the agitation and use it
to fuel innovation.
Name something you are agitated about at your place of employment, in an organization you are part of, or perhaps at home. This can be current (or past).
Then, put on the hat of the “problem solver.” Explain something beneficial that could come from expressing this agitation, and developing a solution to
address it.
