Full Title of Paper
The second page of your paper begins the body of your paper. Note that the title page is
numbered as page 1. Though APA format includes an abstract this assignment does NOT
require an abstract. The full title of the paper is centered at the top of the second page. In the
body of the paper you indent your paragraphs. The body is written in legible 12 point font (ex.
Times New Roman) and double spaced. It is written in 3rd person. Each page has one inch
margins at the top, bottom and sides. The body of your paper should begin with an introduction
that includes the thesis statement of the paper and ends with a summary/conclusion.
When you summarize, paraphrase, and quote material you must cite your sources using
APA format. Quoted material should support what you are writing and be brief. Quotations
need to be elaborated upon and explained. Think about why you have chosen the particular
quote. How does it give evidence and support the information in your paragraph, clarify the
information and/or provide an example? Most quotations should be no longer than 20 to 30
words in length. If a direct quote is 40+ words in length it must be placed in free standing,
blocked format without quotation marks (limit long quotes to no more than one). Each citation
you use in your paper must have a corresponding reference on the reference page. Each
reference on your reference page must have a corresponding citation within the body of the
paper. Papers that do not have citations within the body will not be graded.
If you are not clear on how to appropriately cite and reference your paper get assistance
from the Cerro Coso librarian and/or use “The OWL at Purdue” resource book link found at the
top of your companion online class site. You may also have someone in the Learning Assistance
Center proof your paper before you submit it. Without correct citations and references you
cannot receive a passing grade for your paper. Be sure that your references are of academic

standard. Online sites such as cherry.com Wikipedia, About.com, Psych.com etc. are not
allowed as references. It is best to remain within the Cerro Coso onsite or online libraries to
obtain quality academic material.
Your paper must be a minimum of 1,000 words and no longer than 1,200 words in
length. Papers that have less than 1,000 words or more than 1,200 words will lose points if
significantly over or under.
The final page of your paper is your reference page. This page maintains the APA format
of 1 inch margins, legible 12 point font (do not change font from the body of your paper) and
maintain double spacing. References are placed in alphabetical order and when longer than one
line have a hanging indent. There are no extra lines placed between the references (maintain
double spacing). You must have a minimum of 3 references and no more than 5 references.
Each reference must have a corresponding citation within the body of your paper. Your text
book cannot be used as a reference. This is a literature research paper and not a summary of the
contents of your text book.
You must upload your paper to the course site Upload your entire document in one
upload. Do not use the cut and paste feature. This will alter your format. It is your
responsibility to upload to turnitin.com correctly.
Don’t forget to use the assistance of the Cerro Coso librarians. They are an excellent
resource and can provide valuable assistance in writing your term paper. Besides you can earn
up to 10 extra credit points!

The references are alphabetized and double spaced with one inch margins. There are no
extra lines between references. If your reference is more than one line then a hanging indent is
used.
If you are using an online resource use the (doi) and if this is not available use the (url)
for the website information. General internet resources are not allowed (i.e. Web MD,
Psych.com or about.com etc.). You are to use academic information such as found within the
Cerro Coso Online or onsite Libraries. The Cerro Coso online library has extensive journals,
articles, e-books that are of high academic quality and are more than sufficient to complete this
