E- Persuasive Speech

OUTLINE TEMPLATE
This part of the outline should be your speech written out as you plan to speak
it. Remember to
include source citations in the text of the outline as you plan to say it in your
speech. See main
point #1 as an example. All sources cited APA style in text and in the work
cited page of the
outline.
*** Important – Be sure to include the following labels that in your draft and
final outline. Note
that while you may use the text to guide you in creating an outline, it does not
include all the
criteria that you will need to have in your speech in order to earn an “A” grade.
Introduction
Use of attention-gaining device. – Open with a short story, quote, fact,
research.
Stated topic relevance to audience- Relate the speech to your audience.
Why should they listen?
Credibility Statement- Explain why you are qualified to speak with us. Do
you have research
or experience.
Clearly stated thesis – Your speech in one sentence. ”Today I will explain
why you should watch a la crosse game”
Previewed main points: Introduce the main points clearly as they appear in
the body. “More specifically I will discuss: Main Point 1, Main Point 2, and
Main Point 3.
Body (3-5 main points)
Identify how you use the following elements of persuasion in the body of your
speech:
Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Audience Relevance by simply writing the word in bold
brackets [Ethos] Main Point #1.
data/research – “According to Careers.org, 75% of college students choose a
career
outside their major.” [example of citing research in text ] data/researchTransition. “I just spoke with you about ________, now I will
discuss_________”
Main Point #2
data/research- Cite sources in text using APA format.

Compelling/creative closing-Close with a short story, quote, fact, research.
Leave them feeling
complete. You could go full circle with your attention getter.
Work Cited
APA Format 6 sources required.
* The sources orally cited in your speech, should match the sources in the
work cited .
