This assignment consists of three (3) parts, with the assignment to be submitted as one document by the due date. You must use APA referencing style for this assignment. There is no minimum number of references required. By reading more from a wide variety of sources, you will be able to integrate others’ ideas into your submission, thus demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of teaching science.
Please note, that the reference list is not included in the word count.
Part A: Identification and analysis of the online resource (600 words)
In Part A you will identify an appropriate online resource that can be incorporated into the teaching of a content descriptor of your choosing from the Biological Sciences sub-strand. Provide a brief description of this online resource and include the URL link to the resource. Identify the concepts that will be addressed by this online resource.
Critically discuss the ability of this resource to provide for engagement and differentiation in your classroom, which is likely to have students of varying ability levels. You should also consider, as part of your analysis and evaluation:
• how this resource will fit in with the teaching of the content descriptor, as the resource will form one of a number of lessons/activities that students will engage in
• how this resource could connect with other curriculum areas (e.g. literacy and numeracy)
• how it could connect with opportunities for authentic ‘real world’ learning in the classroom.
Please use the following sub-headings to help you structure Part A of this task:

• Key concept(s).
• Analysis and evaluation.
• Reference list.
Part B: Mind map (400 words equivalent)
Mind maps are a useful visual method of organising ideas. In this part, you will create a mind map for the content descriptor you have selected. As a starting point, the central idea will be a topic heading for the content descriptor. An example of a topic heading could be Animal adaptations.
This mind map will help you place into visual form some of the ideas and thoughts that you have created in Part A. In your mind map you should:
• clearly identify the resource; how the resource could be used in an individual lesson and where it might fit within a unit sequence (e.g. using the 5E or PBL approach)
• provide connections to other potential learning activities (in science and other curriculum learning areas) that you could include in the teaching of your topic
• suggest any scaffolding that could take place
• identify methods for maintaining a safe and challenging learning environment.
Part C: Personal reflection (250 words)
In this personal reflection, consider some of the challenges that you feel might be of concern in the teaching of your content descriptor, and/or implementing the online resource in the classroom. Are you comfortable teaching this topic, and/or using this resource? Why?
You may also want to consider the following questions to help you formulate your reflection:
• What was your rationale behind selecting your online resource?
• What alternate or everyday concepts do you think children might bring with them into the classroom for the concept(s) you will be covering?
• What are some of the challenges that might be presented to you as the teacher, or to the students in your class, with this resource?
• What are some of the safety and equity issues that come to mind with this online resource?
