Curriculum Design in IELTS

E‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍ssay Question You have been working as a private tutor for several years. This year, you have decided to specialise in preparing prospective students for the IELTS tests. Before you start recruiting students, you need to first familiarise yourself with the requirements of the IELTS tests and develop your own curriculum. You have decided to start by first developing a curriculum for Task 1 of the Writing section (Academic) of IELTS. There are two tasks in the Writing section (Academic) of IELTS: Task 1 requires students to write 150 words describing a diagram or set of data, while Task 2 requires students to write a discursive essay of 250 words. Students must complete both tasks in one hour. Students will be scored on a scale of 0-9 based on the four attributes listed below. The following is a screenshot of the last part of a scoring sheet showing the four attributes: For a full list of IELTS Writing (Academic) practice questions and sample answers for Task 1, take a look at the eight samples of Writing Task 1 found in this commercial website: https://ielts-academic.com/ielts-writing-practice-tests/ Your task This ECA requires you to do the following. a) Design the syllabus of the 30-hour course for Task 1 of the Writing section (Academic) of IELTS. Your syllabus should take the form of a detailed content page or an overview of the entire course, stating clearly the units of study, topics, sequencing of content, exercises, and so on. (20 %) b) Design a unit of lessons to illustrate the sort of content and learning tasks that could be included in the course. This unit of study should contain sufficient materials for 3-6 hours of classroom-based lessons. You may adapt suitable materials from textbooks or websites; however, you must properly acknowledge these sources both in your in-text citations and list of references. (30 %) c) Write a report. In your report, discuss and critique your syllabus and unit of lessons, explaining clearly how they are informed by your proposed needs and environment analyses, and your choice of syllabus framework(s). Differentiate clearly between the various syllabus frameworks. In addition, discuss and relate your evaluation and adaptation of the materials to your curriculum design. Wherever applicable, support your curriculum design decisions by referring to relevant readings/research.
