1. Introduction (about ½ page)
f. Problem Statement and Problem Background (1 page)
g. Purpose Statement (1 page)
h. Research Question (about ½ page)
This section (introduction) needs 3 citations
Step 1. Identify
Based on the following scenario,
SCENARIO #2: The DET instrument assesses four subscales related to educators’ perceived needs regarding design, engineering, and technology education (Yasar et al., 2006).
define a hypothetical problem related to the provided dataset (file attached) and relevant to the associated instrument (DET survey in Source Article Attached). Why would a researcher want to collect such data? What possible problems might motivate such research? For example, in the second scenario,
• teachers may lack adequate resources to implement science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs
• teachers may have low self-efficacy to implement science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs
Cite existing literature to explore the background of the problem and justify its relevance. The problem statement should start with “The problem is…” This section should be about one page.
Step 2. Justify
Based on the hypothetical problem you identified, what is the purpose of the study? Justify the purpose with relevant details. What does the study hope to accomplish, and why is it needed? The purpose statement should start with “The purpose is…” This section should be about one page.
Step 3. Compose
Compose 1 research question related to the problem and purpose statements. Remember, they should not have “yes or no” answers and should include the participants, the independent and dependent variables, and the location or context of the study. This section should have a brief paragraph introducing the research questions.
Step 4. Submit
Ensure this section uses APA format and contains at least three scholarly citations. Include a reference page for your sources.

i. Hypotheses (about ½ page)
j. Alignment (about ½ page)
This section needs 3 citations
Step 1. Revise
Compose null and alternate hypotheses for your proposed research questions. Revise your hypotheses to ensure they are appropriately aligned to your chosen scenario, research design, problem and purpose statements, and research questions.
Remember to state both null and alternate hypotheses. Hypotheses should be formatted as follows:
For quasi-experimental and causal comparative/ex post facto designs:
H0: There is no statistically significant difference in _____ scores between _____ and _____ in a _____.
H1: A statistically significant difference exists in scores between _____ and _____ in a _____.
For correlational designs:
H0: There is no statistically significant relationship in _____ between _____ and _____ in a _____.
H1: A statistically significant relationship exists in _____ between _____ and _____ in a _____.
For action research or pre-test/post-test causal comparative designs:
H0: There is no statistically significant increase/decrease/difference in _____ before/after _____ in _____ scores in a _____.
H1: A statistically significant increase/decrease/difference exists in _____ before/after _____ in _____ scores in a _____.
Step 2. Justify
In a well-developed paragraph, justify the alignment of your hypotheses to your chosen scenario, research design, problem and purpose statements, and research questions.
Step 3. Submit
Ensure this section uses APA format and contains at least three scholarly citations.

1. Research Design and Methodology (3 pages)
a. Design justification
i. Independent and dependent variables
ii. Subgroups
b. Instrumentation
c. Scope and Delimitations
d. Assumptions
e. Limitations
This section needs 3 citations
Based on scenario #2 and its associated hypothetical dataset, propose a research design which may suit the problem and purpose statements you composed. Choose from the following possible research designs:
1. A quasi-experimental, or causal-comparative/ex post facto study comparing a dependent variable (i.e., mean survey scores or mean test scores) on some independent variable (i.e., gender, years, of experience, or some other grouping variable). The comparison will likely be for significant difference between the groups.
2. A correlational study identifying any possible relationship between two continuous (non-dichotomous) or dependent variables (i.e., two subscale means or years of experience and mean survey scores).
3. An action research study assuming there is some intervention; focus on the kinds of descriptive statistics that could be used to evaluate the effect of such an intervention without worrying about randomized groups.
Step 1. Justify
Identify the quantitative research design you will use in your quantitative mini-project. Why is this design appropriate to your problem, purpose, and research questions? Explore the background of this design and cite appropriate and relevant methodologists. What are the requirements of this design? What are its scope and delimitations when applied to specific problems? This section should be about one page.
Step 2. Identify
Based on your selected scenario and the design you selected, what kinds of assumptions should you expect, especially related to the hypothetical sample size, administration of the instrument, data collection, etc.? What limitations are inherent in this type of research design? How can you acknowledge the extent to which the study can or cannot be generalized? This section should be about one page.
Step 3. Design
Based on your design, how many groups will your study have? How many comparisons will you need to make? Between which variables? Will you use a split-group design or repeated measures? Clearly identify your independent and dependent variables and relate them to how you will make comparisons between them. Note: You will compose formal hypotheses in Module 7.
Step 4. Submit
Ensure your essay uses APA format and contains at least three scholarly citations. Include a reference page for your sources. Be sure to include a sound introduction and conclusion. Submit your essay.
