double-spaced. You may use any course materials (textbook, lectures, primary sources) in your

attachment in the Part II assignment folder. This portion of your exam is worth 40 points. Late
submissions will not be accepted.
Option 1:
Briefly describe the origins of World War II. In your opinion, what are the
three most significant turning points of the war? What major similarities and
differences exist between the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre?
What impact did World War II have on civilians? Finally, what do you think
is the most significant legacy of World War II? Defend your response with
specific examples.
Option 2:
First, briefly describe the origins of the Cold War. How did it begin and what were the
motivations of each side? Next, choose one of the following nations (China, Cuba, or
Vietnam) and analyze its impact on the Cold War. Is this nation considered part of the
First, Second, or Third World? What major Cold War events was this nation involved in?
How did it change or influence the conflict between the superpowers? Finally, which
superpower benefitted most from this country’s involvement in the Cold War? Defend
your response with specific examples.
Option 3:
Choose one of the following major revolutions (the Mexican Revolution or the Russian
Revolution) and briefly describe how it unfolded. How did this revolution begin? Who
were the major figures? What role did ideology play? How did the revolution end? Was it
successful? In terms of society, economics, and politics, how did the revolution transform
the nation? Finally, in your opinion, what is the lasting legacy of this revolution? Defend
your response with specific examples.
Your essay should provide a thorough response to the prompt. Defend your argument with
specific details and examples. Do not simply summarize the textbook. Be sure to provide a
citation for any instances of quoting or paraphrasing in order to avoid plagiarism. All work that
you submit must be your own. Do not copy and paste from other students or outside sources.
Any instances of plagiarism will face a minimum penalty of 0 on the exam.
