In this section, we looked at three theories born out of the larger discipline of sociology and how they can be applied to a specific homeland security issue; terrorism. These theories are: Social Identity Theory, Social Movement Theory, and Social Network Theory. It this section’s presentation, we the used these theories to examine the state of al Qaeda in 2009 by analyzing three attacks or plot aimed at the United States homeland in the latter part of 2009. Nearly ten years later, it could be argued that there is a much great threat to homeland and even global security from ISIS than from al Qaeda.
For this week’s discussion post, you should apply Social Identity Theory, Social Movement Theory, and Social Network theory to analyze the characteristics of ISIS today in terms of the threat to global security it presents today. You are to then present your findings in your discussion post.
