Given what you have learned about learning, create a broad lesson plan in a curriculum area of your choosing.
In your plan, you will need to include the following:
1. Develop a range of differentiated teaching strategies that would be responsive to learning strengths and needs of students from a broad range of
backgrounds and across a full range of abilities, and that could elicit response to the curriculum area.
2. Based on the principles you use, provide a rationale to guide your choices.
3. Create an introduction video explaining to parents, colleagues and your students about what they will lean in the lesson and why.
Your submission will include the following components (with equivalent word counts and percentage weighting):
Part 1: Lesson plan (~500 words) – 15%
Part 1 of your submission will include a descriiption of your planned lesson or series of lessons. A table will be sufficient but not necessary for this part. In it,
you will need to include information about the context, content and intended outcomes of the lesson. You will also need to describe what activities students
will do, what will be needed to support these activities and the logic of the lesson structure will need to be clear.
Part 2: Rationale (~ 1500 words) – 60%
Part 2 of your submission will include an explanation of why you have planned the lesson or lessons as you have. It is vital that you make it clear the theories
and research that support your decisions. You will need to reference the theories and research explicitly here.
You may format this section in any manner that you see fit, however, a suggested format is:
– An overall statement of your teaching philosophy/overall approach – this will give a broad indication of what you assume learning to be and how this
conceptualisation for learning informs what you plan to do as a teacher.
– Specific details about elements of plan and why you have chosen to design your lesson(s) that way. In particular, this section will need to include details
about how you will be meeting the below APSTs and the overall outcomes of the course. For example, you will demonstrate that you have included a range of
teaching strategies (APST 3.3) and you will need to “demonstrate critical reflection on research into contemporary theories of learning and the mind, and
implications for teaching” (course learning outcome).
– A summary showing very clearly how research and theory has informed your overall lesson plan(s).
Part 3: Introduction video (~500 words equivalent) – 25%
Given what you have learned about learning and development, create an introduction to your lesson(s) that will be appropriate for colleagues, parents and
your intended students. The introduction will take the form of a three minute video. The video will have to capture the attention of your audiences.
Make sure you include:
1. a ‘hook’: a statement or question that really captures your audience;
2. the background: some background information about the subject matter that gives the audience some context and a place to start;
3. the core content or message: an explanation of the content of the lesson in a way that keeps the audience engaged and wanting to know more; and,
4. the “so what?”: This is where everything comes together to identify what you hope your lesson will do to add value to your students.

Important notes:
Parts 1 and 2 of your submission will need to be combined into a single document for submission via Turnitin. You will be marked on appropriate formatting
and referencing for this section. If in doubt, use a template for an APA formatted essay for guidance.
Part 3 of your submission will be via a video file submitted to Blackboard. This means you will be responsible for creating visual aids, slides and other
elements in the video and you will be responsible for recording and uploading the video. Information on how to do so will be added to Blackboard and we will
spend time in workshops on how to create and upload the videos.
Part 2 is the most critical and is weighted accordingly. Please read the intended learning outcomes and APSTs relevant to this course very carefully. You will
be assessed on your capacity to meet these outcomes in this task.
It is vital for you to attend workshops to develop the skills and knowledge to justify what you do when designing lessons. It will be difficult for you to
complete this task without attending workshops.
