FSO110 BID ASSIGNMENT – 20%

• The attached assignment requires you to construct a monthly schedule which meets the Canadian Aviation Regulations and all airline requirements for proper crew rest.

• Please use the Pairings handout or electronic package to review all available pairings and build a bid sheet for one month’s worth of flying. Please be sure to include 10 days off and note them on your bid sheet as X or GDO.

• When selecting pairings, please allow for a minimum of 12 hours rest between to ensure compliance too CARs.

• You may select any combination of pairings that you wish (i.e. turnarounds, long haul, and/or milk runs) but be sure that your hours add up to a bid window of 75-85 hours.

• Once complete, tally your hours and multiply them by your hourly wage of $28.21 to
• determine your GROSS PAY (before taxes). Then determine your total payable tax (at a rate of 18%) and use this to determine your NET pay (after tax).

• Use the Time Away from Base (T.A.F.B.) number to determine your total hours away from base that month. Use this number to determine your per diem which is a rate of $3.75 per hour.

• Combine the two amounts to have a clear idea of what you will earn for the month of flying that you have proposed.

• A generic calendar has been included with this assignment for you to use as a worksheet. Please include it with your final bid sheet.

Your task is to build a schedule using the Preliminary Pairing Reports provided. Each student is required to build this schedule while adhering to these four rules:

1. Your total monthly hours must be between 75 and 85 hours.

2. You must ensure you have 10 GDOs.

3. You must ensure that you have a minimum of 12 hours between pairings. (This is the time between RLS of one pairing and RPT of another).

4. You must ensure you parings are placed on the correct day according to
the preliminary pairing reports.

It is important to remember that students must take in account all these factors when building their schedule. Please refer to the ‘reading a pairing’ section below for important pointers on where to find information.
