Primary Source Documents
Purpose:Candidates will create a document where they upload an image of a primary source document and write a short annotation about the document where they will explain why they chose the document and how they will use it in an instructional application for critical thinking.
• Include name, title, and screenshot image of the primary source document. Also include the link to where the source was found.
• Explain whythis primary source document was chosen.
• Explain the instructional application that a teacher could use this document in a teaching practice

Title: Anne Frank’s Diary

Chosen Because: I have always been very interested in the Holocaust. I have visited the Holocaust museum in Dallas and listened to speakers who lived through it. I was impacted emotionally by all the things that they have gone through and overcome to get to their life today. It blows me away that they are such strong people and that Hitler and his followers could do the things they did to millions of people. The image above is a photo of Anne Frank’s diary. Anne Frank was a young girl who lived and wrote about her experience in the Holocaust. She did not make it through, but her life and impact live on through her writing in her diary and the stories that people tell about her.

Instructional Application:I would use this in my classroom with an older class as we learn about the Holocaust and European history. I would explain that this is a first-hand account of what happened from someone who lived during the time of the war. I would use the document as a focus that will grab the students interest in the lesson. Then, I would read parts of the diary to my students and engage in discussions comparing her life to that of today’s children. We would talk about World War II and all that it entailed. We would also talk about the different emotions that all involved parties felt having to deal with the struggles of that time on a daily basis.
