The Assignment:
Your essay will be an analysis of Mojola Omole’s essay, “What Does It Mean to Have a Healthy Body?: New research has reopened the debate on fat and fitness.”
An analysis breaks a topic into parts and evaluates each part, as well as the quality of the whole thing.
Analyze aspects of her essay’s form (such as point of view, style, and organization) and her essay’s content (such as the points she makes, the points she doesn’t say enough about, and her evidence).
As your thesis, make an evaluation of Omole’s essay based on your analysis. Do you agree or not? Is the essay effective or not?
Instructions:
Write a 3-page essay (6-7 paragraphs, double spaced) analyzing the essay. What do you think of her essay based on your analysis?
The essay should follow the traditional structure for essays, including an introduction, body, and conclusion.
The introduction should be one paragraph that introduces the author’s essay and briefly summarizes the author’s main idea. After that, present your thesis—what is your opinion of her essay?
The body should be 4 or 5 paragraphs. Write on both form and content. Use clear topic sentences to begin paragraphs. Explain your points using quotations, paraphrases, and summaries of the key ideas you discuss.
The conclusion should sum up your opinion of her essay based on your analysis and use a strategy to finish the essay effectively.
You may use outside research to support your analysis. However, remember that the focus of the essay should be on Omole’s essay.
Formatting:
Your essay should be in APA style. Include a cover page and a reference page for your assignment, and number your pages. See the APA page linked to the Humber libraries website for formatting details.
