Write a critical, scholarly essay, gathering and properly quoting information from at least three academic
sources. Evaluation will based on your ability to draw on the notions discussed in class and on other
academic sources, and to elaborate further ideas in the form of an academic essay.
The notion of double motivation in Homer. How does Homer’s language refer to decisions? How can we
make sense of the fact that a man’s own decision can be initiated or prevented by a god or goddess as well
as by themselves -i.e., double motivation? Are Homer’s men and women free –does Homer believe in free
will? Can they be held responsible for their actions?
