The elements of ancient Greek Theatre
Take one fundamental element that is found in ancient Greek drama (for example; the mask, sacrifice, oral
poetry, dance, choral performance, procession, ritual, cult practice, politics, gender conflict, mythological
narratives, staging, etc.). Describe this element and relate it to Aeschylus’ Oresteia (Agamemnon, Libation
Bearers, Furies).
Cite THREE sources here. One can be the translation and/or introduction to Aeschylus’ Oresteia, the
others can be assigned readings from class or research you have found. Make sure your citations are from
a relevant book or scholarly article. Consult your recitation instructors for help. If you need help with finding
additional material reach out.
Don’t be afraid to be bold in your choice but do find the scholarship to support your idea.

So you HAVE to use Aeschylus’ Oresteia (Agamemnon, Libation Bearers, Furies) as one of the sources. All
three stories. Two can be free sources but make sure its scholarly source.
and the main idea is not how Aeschylus’ Oresteia used mythological narratives, but its how mythological
narrative is used in Aeschylus’ Oresteia.
So the main focus is on mythological narrative not on Oresteia.
Aeschylus’ Oresteia, translated by Peter Meineck, Hackett Publishing 1998 is the only version that could be
used. If you can’t get this version please let me know. I’ll give you my ebook website and ID/PW for this
book.
