Studies that Changed Psychology Paper
Part 1:
The “Studies that Changed Psychology” paper will be due on the Sunday at the end of Week 10 by
11:59pm EST. For this assignment, you will select any one of the readings from the Hock textbook
(“Forty Studies that Changed Psychology: Explorations into the History of Psychological Research”) that
were not discussed in class and conduct a further review of the area. For part 1, you will summarize the
reading in terms of the study and it’s results (2 pages)
Part 2:
For the second part of the paper, read the “Recent Applications” section of the reading that you
selected. From this section, identify a topic of interest that you would like to study further. After you
have chosen a topic, access the JWU library’s online resource and search for an article on it. Be sure to
find a NEW study that was published after the Hock textbook (within the last 10 years.) The second part
of your paper will be a summary of the study and it’s findings (2 pages.)
Paper Overview:
The paper should be structured in the following manner (adhering to APA style standards):
1. Cover page (one page by itself.)
2. Introduction paragraph.
3. Summary of the reading you chose from the Hock text. You should discuss the theoretical
propositions, significant findings, criticisms, and any other significant sections outlined in the
reading. This section should be 2 pages and include in-text references in APA style (See APA
style guide below).
4. Discussion of the related study you found via the online library resource. Share the results of the
study and the connection between what was discussed in the Hock reading and the study that
you found. Essentially, you are sharing how the research described in the Hock reading you
chose led the way to the more recent study you found. This section should also be 2 pages and
include in-text references in APA style.
5. A conclusion paragraph drawing the connection between the Hock reading you selected and the
new scholarly research you found of the subject.
6. References page (one page by itself) including the Hock textbook as well as any other sources
you used. Be sure to follow APA style guidelines.
Per the grading rubric, the paper should include a cover page, 4 full pages of content, and a reference
page. Be sure to use at least one scholarly source you find at the library to help further your discussion.
Do not use sources from sites such as Wikipedia, Simple Psychology, or other sites without academic
backing. In addition, only use the library resources, not other online databases like Google Scholar.
