Be sure to watch the video of Billie Holiday singing the song. You will find a YouTube link to the video about half way through the story. (If the link to the Billie Holiday video doesn’t work, try this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnlTHvJBeP0 ):

2. Then, go to the following site and watch the short movie you find there. Additionally, look through all of the pictures. The pictures appear larger on your screen and you can see more detail.

3.  Your paper should be in proper MLA format: Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced with one inch margins, and no extra spaces between paragraphs.
 You do not need to format your name date, etc. according to MLA format. Just put your name in the top, left corner, and a title at the top center of the page.

“Strange Fruit”
Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
