Solar System and Beyond

Solar System and Beyond
We have learned an incredible amount about the universe in which we leave; especially in the last 150 years. Write an essay describing a physics-related aspect of the universe that you find compelling. Focus on the underlying physics principles associated with your topic, but also argue why the topic is relevant and important to humans.

Possible topics include:

• Design a new rocket. A number of organizations and companies around the world are designing new rockets and technologies for travel into space. Describe one or more of these and/or develop an idea for a new technology.
• Mission to Mars. Mars is almost certainly the next new destination in our solar system that will be visited by humans. Discuss the challenges and impact of such a mission with a focus on some of the underlying physics aspects.
• Our solar system/galaxy/universe. We have discovered that our universe is filled with amazing and surprising objects. Describe one such object, the relevance of its discovery and the underlying physics (which could include physics associated with how the object was discovered or visited by human devices).
