RESEARCH DESIGN: What are the impacts of the virtual learning environment caused by COVID-19 on parental stress?
Research Questions: As lifted from the research proposal, the following will be the research questions:
(1) What is the parental understanding of e-learning?
(2) what are the challenges encountered by the parent as a result of e-learning?
(3) What concerns about e-learning do parents have?
Research Population: All parents of elementary and middle school students who are attending virtual learning at different school at Old Westbury, Long Island New York
Sampling Methods:
A convenience sampling will be done. That is, the respondent will be sending inform consent frms to 100 parents who have children enrolled in virtual classes in elementary level from the list rovided by schools visited. Each of these identified parents will be sent an Inform Consent Form through their emails (requested from their registered emails in the school). The approved Inform Consent Form will be used for this purpose. The final number of respondents will be dependent on the number of consents returned, however, if the consents returned turns out to be less than 50, then the deficit will be drawn again from through random sampling so that the sample size would at least be 50 parents. Data Collection Instruments:
The main data collection tool is an online survey form (through the use of google forms) whose contents include the demographic profile of the parents and open-ended questions relevant to the stress of parents while their children attend virtual classes. downloaded A link to the online google form will be provided to the respondents and their responses will be automatically tabulated in a google sheet. The survey questionnaire to be used is the approved survey questionnaire.
Preliminary Data Analysis Plan
For the preliminary analysis of data collected, descriptive statistics of the demographic profile of the respondents will be generated through the use of statistical software like SPSS. Among the demographic questions will be whethere they have children in the elementary, middle school or both. This data will give an overall picture of the composition of the respondents such as their age bracket, their gender, employment status, number ofkids and educational background as these data may be contributory factors in the stress level of the parents.
For the open-ended questions, a manual thematic analysis will be done and data mining specifically through the use of word count will be employed for each of the questions to come up with the most accurate thematic analysis of the results.
