Week 2: Organization Profile & SWOT
• Choose a health system that you wish to use throughout this class as the basis for your weekly discussion assignments. Each of the discussion assignments will relate to the health system you choose.
• Every student will research their selected health system in regard to its use of technology.
• Your end product will be a 3 to 5 page, single-spaced MS Word Document (this will typically be between 1000-1500 words) that profiles the healthcare organization and that describes important aspects of the organization and its use of technology. This should be grammar-checked and consistently readable in APA style (title page and references do not count in page total).
• Your organization description should at least contain the following elements: (1) issues impacting organization – both internal and external, (2) current technology state, (3) organizational location & services, and (4) community and competition data – such as other health care providers and the characteristics (health) of the community.
• In addition to the narrative description of your healthcare organization mentioned above, you should include a SWOT analysis for the organization focused on their technology. The SWOT should be laid out in a traditional four quadrant diagram and each quadrant should contain a minimum of three elements/points. • Research information on ransomware – how it works, major issues and attacks on healthcare organizations.
• You should respond to the following scenario and support your answers with sources and explanations:
You are the Chief Information Security Officer at your selected healthcare organization. Your health system has come under a ransomware attack in the last hour. Multiple users have reported ransom messages on their computers, and no one has been able to access the EHR system in the last 45 minutes. You are now receiving calls from the local media asking if there is a problem at the system.
• Your end product will be a 3 to 5 page, single-spaced MS Word Document (this will typically be between 1000-1500 words) that that provides responses to the following questions (This should be grammar-checked and consistently readable in APA style – title page and references do not count in page total):
o Describe if you would pay the ransom ($500,000 in bitcoin) and why
o How will you protect other systems?
o What actions would you take to recover from the attack?
o Who would you communicate with in what order and what would be your message?
o Where would you look for help?
