For this synthesis, you’ll use what you learned during the salmon case study to evaluate the information
available in the Biodiversity Forum:
Think about what you learned about how the popular concept of “survival of the fittest” doesn’t always
match biological reality.
Choose ONE of the profiles in the Biodiversity Forum that illustrates another example of how “survival of
the fittest” is a more complex concept.
This does NOT need to be another example of multiple phenotypes like the salmon. It can be ANYTHING
that you think illustrates the complexity of “survival of the fittest”.
Write a short paragraph (about 5-8 sentences) that explains why you chose this profile, and how this
organism increases fitness in a way that doesn’t fit with the popular concept.
Make sure to use the alternate phrase that your group developed in your final discussion during your
explanation.

author, organism & date/time stamp of the profile.
Question #1: males will need to be smaller so that they don’t get caught and produce more sperm. Also

Females: smaller so that they don’t get caught and produce more eggs, stronger body structure to make a
deeper hole. Also have a tougher skin. An instinctual drive to keep moving. Eggs are able to camouflage
their surroundings or translucent.
Question #2: The male looking like a female is an advantage because they are able to blend in and not
draw attention to themselves. The males also have a sharler tale and most likely could swim faster to
evade other males.
Question #3: Just because you are strong doesn’t mean you will reproduce. There are multiple ways of
reproducing one dominant strategy is being sneaky.
