Overview: Create an infographic to illustrate one theoretical concept from Module 2
Assignment goals: Demonstrate understanding of one theory from Module 2; demonstrate
ability to illustrate an abstract concept; demonstrate ability to communicate information
effectively in a visual format.
Instructions: Choose one of the course concepts listed below. Create an infographic to
illustrate the concept using one specific example, either from the readings or from your own
experience.
Concepts:
● Media effects
● The culture industry
● The public sphere
● Media concentration
For example, an infographic about the media effects paradigm might examine a video game
franchise like Call of Duty; an infographic about the culture industry might explore various
Disney movies; an infographic about the public sphere might trace the circulation of a fake news
story; an infographic about media concentration might use the example of the Canadian
telecommunications industry. It is a great idea to run your idea by your TA!
Please refer to the detailed How-To Guide for further instructions.
Format: Your infographic may be analog or digital, but it must be submitted in PDF format
via the assignments portal on cuLearn. Include a list of references somewhere on your
infographic cited appropriately. Cite all relevant readings from Module 2, as well as any
additional research that you conduct. There is no page range for this assignment, but in general
we are looking for quality over quantity of information.
There are a variety of free, easy-to-use online tools available, including: Canva, Easel.ly,

Regarding citation: You must cite all ideas that are not your own. You should include a list
of references somewhere on your infographic formatted using a style guide. Direct quotes and
information that you have gleaned from an online source should also be cited appropriately.
