Assignment 2 – Silicon Valley v. Bangalore
◼ This CA accounts for 1/3 of your overall module mark
◼ Write an essay comparing the ICT concentration in Silicon Valley
and Bangalore
◼ The essay should adopt a System of Innovation Approach to
comparing industrial concentrations
◼ The Essay should:
• Include a maximum of 1400 words (not counting the bibliography)
• Use proper referencing and citation (for details see Departmental Guide
to Referencing available on the ‘all third year students’ moodle page)
• Line spacing: 1.5
Assignment 2
◼ Students are free to develop their own essay structure
but the essay should include at least the following
elements:
• Cover page. Simply make up your own page stating: name, student
number, module and date.
• Title
• Short introduction (which ends with a guide through your essay)
• Body sections
• Brief conclusion (approximately. 100 words)
• Bibliography

◼ Assessment Criteria:
• Content (Comprehensiveness; Argument; Logic; Critical aspect)
• Structure of the essay (use sections and section headings!)
• Proper use of references
• For every 100 words over the set word count range 5% of the mark will
be deducted
• Plagiarism or copying from the Internet will result in “no mark”
• Simply copying lecture slides will result in a fail
• Deadline: Upload a copy of your essay via Turnitin on Moodle
before 1 December 17.00 hours (15 marks deducted for each
week (or part of week) being late.
