Paper details
Historians use primary sources to construct historical arguments. For your essay, you will need to use
primary sources that you have read in class to craft an argumentative essay. These are written by historical
figures – the selections from the Reader…NOT the textbook! Use as much evidence and be as specific as
you can. Don’t forget to cite what you use. No outside sources.
• “Never in the history of the world was society in so terrific flux [definition: continuous change] as it is right
now,” Jack London wrote in The Iron Heel, a 1908 dystopian novel. –Think about this statement (no need
to read the book). In an argumentative essay, answer the following prompt: How had the United States
changed in the fifty years since the end of the Civil War (the Civil War ended in 1865)?–
The sources talked about are the early parts of the reconstruction and growth. I have linked all of them
below to offer a lot to choose from. Sources can only come from here. I attached them in a rar, and
organized them by the unit.
You can use however many are needed to complete the main idea of the essay.
