In this unit, you were introduced to procedural coding of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system as well as the diagnosis coding system known as the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). You also reviewed how encoders and computer-assisted coding is used in healthcare facilities. Additionally, you analyzed what code sets are and their importance of meeting Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) code standards for insurance payers during the claim submission process.
