“Cultural Moment(s)” for this assignment you will need to choose 5 songs (lyrics) that can be synthesized with Chapters 10 and Chapter 11 in the “Theory
Toolbox” and other course materials. Think about differences and challenges to acceptable (biopower) behavior, womanhood, manhood, sexual preference,
economic standing, etc. — How do your 5 song choices reflect Biopower and challenge to “accepted” culture and how do they make certain meanings
possible or improbable? Be sure to identify the biopower(s) and the resistance to it/them in each song.
Use Chapters 10 & 11 along with the song lyrics to support and express the challenges and how they make meanings possible or improbable. Essays must
use references and quotes from the assigned chapters.

Your essay should be 3-4 pages with cited sources and lyrics.

history class, not an English class, learning to write fluently and coherently is an important part of your college education and will provide you with
transferable skills you can use in the workplace after graduation. In preparation for the course exams and essays, we will address writing skills as part of a
lecture. Avoid first-person and impersonal references.
Students will be responsible for developing time management skills enabling them to complete work, as well as homework equivalent for a 3 credit course.
