The Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to deepen the students’ understanding and comprehension of peri-operative, pediatric, adolescent, and maternal health concepts. Students will develop a Critical Thinking Framework for a specific health challenge. In addition, students will write a scholarly paper that identifies relevant data from a case study, a priority nursing diagnosis, clinical manifestations, nursing interventions, collaborative care and community resources.

Process

Students will select a case study on a peri-operative, pediatric, adolescent, or maternal health challenge. There are two parts to the assignment. Part A will promote analysis and critical thinking. Part B will promote knowledge application, scholarly writing and research.

Part A
Critical Thinking Framework

Instructions:
Maximum length: 1 page (250 words)
Using a standard size (8.5 x 11) document, develop a Critical Thinking Framework that includes:

Relevant Case Study:
• Identify relevant data from the case study.

Clinical Manifestations/Complications:
• Identify relevant clinical manifestations from the case study and include related research (5 minimum).
• Clinical Manifestations must be physiological and psychosocial.

Priority Nursing Diagnosis/Problems :

• Identify two (2) priority-nursing diagnoses based on the selected clinical manifestations.
• Nursing diagnosis must be physiological and psychosocial.

Interventions:
• Identify five (5) treatment and/or illness prevention strategies (priority) related to each nursing diagnosis.
• Identify evidence based treatment/prevention strategies.
• Please note: Treatment or illness prevention strategies must include a wide range of activities such as health teaching, nutritional planning, nursing interventions and drug therapy.
• Collaborative practice must be included to demonstrate knowledge of roles/responsibilities of the health care team members.
• All treatment or prevention strategies should be specific and client centered (relate back to client and context identified in the case study). Please ensure that all interventions include in text citations and references.
• Please highlight the selected pathway in this Critical Thinking Framework that will be used for your paper (Part B).

Part B
Scholarly Written Paper

Include introduction and a conclusion relevant to the case study

• Provide a written paper related to the selected case-study with evidence-based rationales to justify the links that you have made in the Critical Thinking Framework (Part A). Include evidence-based rationales to support the path that you have chosen.

Relevant Case Study Data:
• Provide evidence-based rationales to support your selection of the relevant case study data from the case scenario.
• Use peer reviewed articles to support your rationales.

Clinical Manifestations:
• Provide evidence-based rationales to support your selection of priority Clinical Manifestation(s).
• Selected two (2) clinical manifestations to discuss. These clinical manifestations must relate to the selected nursing diagnoses
• Use peer reviewed articles to support your rationales.

Nursing Diagnosis:
• Select only one (1) Nursing Diagnosis
• Provide evidenced based rationale to support your selection of the one (1) priority nursing diagnosis.

Interventions:
• Justify your selection of five (5) priority interventions that relate to the (one) 1 selected nursing diagnosis.
• Use peer reviewed articles to support your rationales.

Format:
Part A & B

• Students must adhere to APA (current edition).
• Title page must be included
• The Critical Thinking Framework must include in text citation.
• Part B must include a minimum of four (4) pages and a maximum of five (5) pages.
• A required minimum of 4 peer reviewed-credible references (text book can count as 1 reference).
• The paper should have evidence-based literature to support all sections of your paper
Format for Submitting Assignment
1. Students must adhere to APA current edition.
2. The penalty for late submission of assignments is a deduction of 20% per day of the original assignment value (weekends count as two (2) days). Assignments submitted five (5) days after the due date will not be marked. Assignments must be submitted electronically. Assignments submitted after the due date and time (without prior discussion with the professor) will be considered late. Assignments submitted on Fridays after 1600 hours, will not be considered received until 0800 hours Monday with a two (2)-day penalty for the weekend.
