The objective of this Design Assignment is to ensure that you thoughtfully reflect upon
lessons learned in your design activities so that you can improve your design practice in
the future. It is also an opportunity for you to show that you can write in a clear, accurate
and concise manner. In this assignment, you will reflect upon the lectures, lab activities,
and assignments of the first 4-5 weeks of GE 142 Design I.
Your task for this assignment is write an essay that answers the question “what have been
the most important things that you learned in design, thus far, that will change how you
do design in the future?”
This standard format essay should include a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. In
the body, you will be expected to talk about 2-3 key learnings that will influence your
future design activities. While reflecting on design advice given in class will be
adequate, coming up with deeper insights that build on classroom material will be a
higher objective (see rubric next page).
For each lesson/insight, a) describe it clearly, b) explain how you came to this
understanding, and c) talk about how it will influence your future design behaviour.
Submitting Your Work
You will prepare your submission on word processing software such as MS Word. You
will then save it as a PDF and upload it to Crowdmark by midnight of Wed Nov 24.
At the top of your document, create a header with your name, NSID, and the title “Design
Assignment 3”. Your document must not be more than 2 pages in length, all in. It must
be between 500 and 750 words long, including the header information. No references
should be needed. Use font size 11 or 12 (Calibri, Times New Roman, or Arial) and
either Word™ default or 1.5 spacing.
Your graded Assignment will be returned to you within a week. No late assignments will
be accepted for any reason.
