For your final, you will write an essay in which you explore the readings in HU 112 and reflect on the value of a liberal arts course, the themes presented, and
the applicability of these works to your own life. You must include all of the texts we have read (Man for All Seasons, Hamlet, The Narrative of Frederick
Douglass, and Tuesdays with Morrie). Write about how you would compare the struggles—and consequent insights for you—of the characters you
encountered. In other words, how or why did you identify with (connect with) the characters or the subjects you read? The English writer C.S. Lewis said, “We
read to know we’re not alone.” Have any of the Humanities readings opened portals (worlds) for you and deepened or enriched your own life in any way?
Please be specific. Mention individual works and characters—as well as issues addressed (or suggested) in the readings. We have read FOUR works and your
response regarding each work will be worth 25%. Refrain from writing generalizations such as “He was a good man who had lots of wisdom.”
