For this assignment, you will explore information regarding a US city, of your choice, that has a significant
crime rate.
1. You can explore the FBI’s Most Violent Cities or other sites to help choose ONE US large city. (I chose
Baltimore)
2. Provide, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, a brief history of the city. Make sure to include significant impacts to
the city in your summary that would be relevant to structural theories. (one paragraph)
3. Identify and discuss current crime rates you located on the city. (one paragraph)
4. Discuss how the city would represent an example of social disorganization over the years. Be specific
with points from social disorganization and the city you chose. (one paragraph)
5. Explain how the ‘city’ caused crime and not the residents living there. You may find it helpful to look at
crime rates in other cities for comparison. Discuss at least three factors or focal points in the ‘place’ that
impacts crime for that area. (One paragraph)
6. Discuss what efforts that you find online in what the city is trying to do to become less socially
disorganized. (One paragraph)
