RESEARCH PAPER: OUTLINE AND REFERENCE LIST ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Earlier this term, you selected a research paper topic and identified a rationale for that topic choice. This Reference Paper: Outline and Reference List Assignment is the next step in the research paper process: to develop a full-sentence outline representing the content you’ll include in your Research Paper: Final Assignment. Just like goals are needed to direct the life coaching process, an outline is needed to direct the successful writing of your research paper. As you consider areas of your Research Paper: Topic Assignment needing to be addressed, you will notice that you are using skills similar to the goal-setting process. Not only is this a skill developing assignment, but it allows you to receive valuable feedback prior to submitting your Research Paper: Final Assignment.
INSTRUCTIONS
Your Reference Paper: Outline and Reference List Assignment must include the following in one Word document:
● Introduction (including description of your topic and rationale)
● Headings and subheadings
● Conclusion
● In-text citations throughout the content of the outline
● A reference page

The introduction and conclusion sections must be written as they would be in your Research Paper: Final Assignment, but edits can be made to each of these sections before your final submission. The rationale used in your Research Paper: Topic Assignment submission should be used as the foundation of your introduction in this Reference Paper: Outline and Reference List Assignment. After the introduction, the body of your paper will begin, and headings for main sections of your paper used. Under each heading, there should be at least one complete sentence that indicates what that section of your paper will focus on. These sentences should contain a citation of one of the sources you will use in your final paper. Do not use direct quotes for these sentences. Continue listing headings with at least one complete sentence under each heading until the content of your paper is outlined.

At the end of your outline, create a reference list for the sources you cited in your outline. Your reference list must include at least 5 of the 8 scholarly, empirical, current sources identified in your Research Paper: Topic Assignment submission (published within the last 5 years) that are directly related to your topic. Be sure to select a variety of scholarly sources and format the reference page in current APA style. At least 2 scholarly journal articles must be included in your reference list. The remaining 3 required sources may include books or other journal articles. Sources such as Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, and non-scholarly journals such as Psychology Today are not appropriate for your reference list. The course text may not be used as one of the 5 main sources.

Please review the Research Paper: Outline and Reference List Example for the proper format, noting that it simply demonstrates the organization of the headings and what information needs to be included under those headings.
