Transformative Agents of Positive Change

Assignment 1: Transformative Agents of Positive Change

In the Discussion, you identified three topics in the field of education that ignite your passion and that may inform your end product in your program of study.

In this Assignment, you will address, in more detail, the topics about which you are passionate (1. Parental Support 2. Positive Student Attitudes and Behaviors Towards Schools, 3. Equal Access to Education), why you have decided to pursue an advanced graduate degree (I want to increase my knowledge and skill level in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in an effort to secure an administrative position that will enable to me to help low achieving students experience success in the public school setting. They can experience success with increased parental support, positive student attitudes and behaviors towards education (need different measures of success (performance-based testing) – less standardized testing and more options within the school curriculum (vocational-technical training/course of study; need alternative school discipline strategies), and equal access to education (alternatives to public education – private schools, charter schools, themed schools, magnet schools), and what you hope to accomplish with your degree (become a more critical thinker, reader, and writer; upgrade knowledge and skill level in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment; obtain administrative position; obtain salary increase).

Consider the information you shared with your colleagues and reflect on what your colleagues shared with you in the Discussion posts and responses. Ask yourself what impact you would like to make in the areas about which you are passionate and what changes you would like to implement. Think about how advancing your education might contribute to you making a difference in the areas about which you are passionate.

By Day 7 of Week 1
Submit a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following:
(1) A description of the experiences and motivations that have led you to pursue an advanced graduate degree.
(2) An explanation of how the three topics you addressed in the Discussion relate to issues in education.
(3) A description of a problem related to each issue—a problem you would want to help solve.
(4) At least two goals you hope to accomplish as a result of obtaining your degree.
(5) An explanation of how your pursuit of the topics you identified can enable you to become a transformational agent of positive change. Provide specific examples.
